Spherical and aspherical lenses are used in mobile phones, automotive headlamps and illumination optics. The lens profile, lens position relative to the frame and the presence of coating on the lens surface must be measured. Measurement-uncertainty requirements for imaging optics are very high, with tolerances from 5 to 20 µm.
Because lenses are small, holding them for measurement is a major challenge. Fine geometric deviations on an optical surface directly affect imaging performance; a chromatic focus sensor enables precise non-contact acquisition of geometry on both transparent and reflective surfaces.
