Master moulds used to manufacture contact-lens production moulds must be inspected, and the lenses themselves must also be measured. Surface-form deviations of lenses and tools are important. Low tolerances at the level of a few micrometres make measurement-uncertainty requirements very high. Highly reflective tool surfaces are a challenge for optical measurement.
For highly reflective mould surfaces, a multisensor approach combining image processing, autofocus and confocal sensors is recommended, supplemented by the Werth Fiber Probe where a tactile reference is needed.
