In connector measurement, the most important geometric characteristics are pin position relative to the housing and parallelism. Voids inside the plastic housing and burrs on the pins are also frequently inspected. With tolerances of 20–50 µm, measurement-uncertainty requirements are medium, but measuring-time (cycle-time) requirements are high.
Werth systems combine image processing and tactile probes to inspect pin position, parallelism and forming defects in one setup; automated measuring routines make them suitable for quality control on mass-production lines.
