Dressing wheels have a geometrically undefined cutting edge and multi-resolution surface. The profile, angle, radius, distance are measured directly from the dressing wheel, or indirectly at the point of the dressing. Due to the very low clearance of about 5 μm, the measurement inaccuracy requirement is very high, and the measurement time requirement is equally high, as normal inline measurements are performed. Partially reflective and partially transparent dressing wheels require special conditions for the sensor. Partially reflective and partially transparent surfaces are difficult to respond to as a single sensor, and a strategy that can be implemented to complement a point of entry image sensor
