Sensor assemblies often contain very small, densely arranged sensor elements with sensitive surfaces, usually mounted in a housing. The most important geometric characteristics are position, flatness and distance. Depending on the application, tolerances range widely from 5 µm to a few tenths of a millimetre. Measuring time is relatively low priority.
